Some may think I’m mad, but I’m genuinely very excited about this brief break from my desk.

For the next fortnight, I’m on my bike, alongside a very good friend, cycling the length of the South Island. We’re on the Sound to Sound trail – from Queen Charlotte Sound to Milford Sound, and during the trip we will cycle 1500km on our mountain bikes.

Right now, we are three days in. So I’ll keep this short. But we’re having a blast.

You can follow my progress on our facebook page here. For the extra enthusiastic armchair fans, you can also track us via GPS.

I’m writing daily updates on Facebook. I also have plans to share this story more widely in the near future. It’s a great example of sustainable tourism – in this case pedal powered – where I will be seeing things and having experiences I would simply not have if I wasn’t on my bike.

More soon … But in the meantime, on my bike!
