Since taking up my appointment at Griffith in May 2023 I have become a member of the world-leading Griffith Institute for Tourism (GIFT).
GIFT is Australia’s largest tourism research institute with over 130 academic, adjunct and PhD members from tourism and tourism-related disciplines, such as technology, economics, architecture, planning and environmental sciences. The institute has six research clusters that bring together researchers with common interests to create strong communities of scholars at different stages of career within the department, but also from across the university as well as national/international affiliates, adjuncts and visiting scholars.
I was appointed co-director (with Dr. Johanna Loehr) of the Climate Change Action cluster in 2023. The two of us are based at different campuses – Johanna at the Gold Coast and me at Nathan in Brisbane – where we try to foster our community of researchers, share information and insights and try to facilitate opportunities for those working in a subfield of tourism studies that is of importance and urgency.
Members of the cluster have research interests and expertise in carbon footprint analysis, impact assessment, policy analysis and climate change strategies including climate change mitigation and adaptation, all of which contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (2015-2030) most notably SDG13 Climate Action.
