[Please note that applications for this opportunity have now closed]

I am really pleased to invite applications for a Griffith University PhD scholarship.

The scholarship offers a rare and exciting opportunity to join a five-year, $NZ9.5 million research programme (2024-2028) funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment Endeavour Fund (New Zealand). Our project is titled: ‘He karapitpitnga mariko – Immersive regenerative tourism experiences in Aotearoa’ .

This is an interdisciplinary programme of research that aims to enabling new forms of physical (in-person) and virtual/augmented visitor experiences. Our research programme explores opportunities to create immersive and interactive tourism experiences using techniques from virtual and augmented realities. We are delighted and grateful that Griffith University has ring-fenced this scholarship to support our research programme.

The successful applicant will join the research team as a PhD candidate at Griffith University (Australia) under my principal supervision. Co-supervision will include a colleague at the University of Otago (New Zealand). This PhD project will require visits to New Zealand to work with members of the research team, undertake data collection and engage with end users of the research. If you are interested please don’t hesitate to email me at j.higham@griffith.edu.au

Applications close at 5pm (AEST) on Thursday 31 October 2024. Further information about this research programme, including how to apply (scroll down and look at the ‘EoI process’ tab) is available at this website: https://www.otago.ac.nz/research/immersive-tourism
